Scholarships
Since Newton Prep’s foundation, two of the School’s main aims have been to celebrate academic excellence and to bring the education the School offers within reach of bright children whose parents have palpable difficulty in meeting the fees. Over the years, many children have been helped towards long-term academic success at senior school and university, their formative years at Newton Prep having been supported by the Newton Scholarship Fund.
The Newton Scholarship Fund is a registered charity administered by a board of trustees who use its funds to help children who are likely to benefit academically from the education offered by Newton Prep. Corporate as well as individual donations are accepted. (Some may prefer to be anonymous.)
Newton Prep itself awards academic scholarships up to the value of £250 per term after competitive examination, without means testing. Scholarships are awarded by the School to pupils moving into, or applying to, Year 3 and Year 7. The success of all children who are awarded scholarships by the School will be publicly acknowledged.
In addition, the Newton Scholarship Fund offers means-tested top-up bursaries, within certain limits, to children of scholarship ability whose families require financial assistance. Any financial assistance which a family may receive from the Newton Scholarship Fund will remain confidential to the Trustees of the Newton Scholarship Fund.
Please explore this section of the Newton Prep website to find out more about whether your child might be eligible for bursary help from the Newton Scholarship Fund or how to make a donation.

I am struggling to pay my child’s fees - can we apply for bursary funding?
Long term bursary funding is only available to children who have been assessed by the school to be of scholarship ability but there may be short term funding available in certain situations. If you have a child at the school and have short term difficulties meeting the fees or your circumstances have changed for the worse you should contact Peter Farrelly, the school’s Finance and Administration Manager in the first instance and he will be able to provide guidance as to the help that may be available.
What sort of income levels might attract bursary funding?
There are not absolute figures that can be given. When considering a request for bursary funding the Trustees consider the position holistically taking all relevant factors into account. This will include but are not limited to the total household income from all sources but also expenses, the number of dependants and their ages, the value of any assets and the ability or otherwise of the parents or guardians to work.
What is the process for applying for bursary funded place for my child?
