Upper school Code of Conduct

As a member of Newton Prep we expect you to behave in a kind, considerate manner at all times. As part of a large community it is important that we all follow basic rules of behaviour and treat the school and all of it’s members with respect. Take pride in the school and yourself and make sure you keep to the following rules at all times.

General

Be punctual.

Show a general alertness and consideration for others at all times and expect others to do the same.

Exhibit good manners at all times.

Towards staff

Show respect to gain respect.

Follow teachers’ instructions. Do not interrupt, put up your hand to ask if you have not understood.

Towards other pupils

Make sure you are not unkind in your words or actions.

If you or anyone else is being bullied, then you should always tell a teacher or any other adult.

Be considerate towards others and respect their property.

Movement about the School

Do not push or run in corridors – walk on the right.

Hold open doors for adults and other children.

Do not use the lift unless you are accompanied by an adult.

Tidiness and Staying Healthy

Always dress smartly.

Keep all lockers and rooms tidy.

Do not ignore litter, pick it up.

Do not bring gum, sweets, biscuits, or cakes to School. On birthdays you may bring cake to share with your class. It must not contain any nuts.


Lessons

Be on time, with the correct books and equipment and enter the classroom only with the teacher’s permission.

Do not move furniture about or open the windows.

Do not leave the classroom without permission.

Respect the teacher’s, the School’s and other pupils’ property.  If you borrow any books or equipment make sure that these are returned before the end of the lesson.

Do not eat or drink in the classroom. In hot weather, bottled water is allowed.
Take pride in your work and in the condition of your exercise and text books.  Sub-standard work is unacceptable and will have to be repeated before it is marked.

Break

When queuing for break time snack, wait outside the dining room until a duty teacher or supervisor arrives.

All children should go outside unless it is wet play.

When outside do not leave the playground, or All Weather Pitch, for any reason without first obtaining permission from the person on duty.

Safety

Do not touch equipment of any kind, except under staff supervision.
Shoulder length hair or hair that obscures the face should be neatly tied back away from the face with uniform coloured clips / bands etc.

Make sure your property is clearly marked.  Take particular care of valuable personal items.

Report accidents immediately.

The school has a strict ‘NO NUTS’ policy and children should not bring any item containing nuts into school.

Property

Only bring to School what you need. Valuables and large sums of money should not be brought to School.
